A collectable hammered silver Halfgroat of Queen Elizabeth the First with Escallop mint mark to both sides, indicating that this piece was struck at the London mint between the years 1584 and 1586. From Elizabeth I’s sixth coin issue. The obverse features the crowned bust of the queen, facing left with two dots behind, indicating the value of two pence. The reverse shows a fourchee long cross through a shield of arms representing England in two quarters with three lions, and France with three fleur-de-lis in the other two quarters. This coin comes with a B A Seaby ticket/envelope from January 1966, listing a purchase price of £2.10.0. Spink 2579.

6th issue. Crowned and robed bust of Queen Elizabeth I, facing left with two dots behind, within a beaded circle. Mint mark: Escollop. Legend: 'I · D · G  · ROSA · SINE · SPINA ·'.

Reverse

Fourchee long cross over square toped shield of royal arms, dividing legend. No date. Mint mark: Escallop. Legend: 'CIVITAS LONDON'.

Grade

GF - A darker grey even tone with strong bust details on full flan of good metal, no real issues for good Fine. Comes with an old Seaby ticket.
