Make it a day out
It is well worth a visit, as a fine example of an ancient market town. Its recorded history dates back to AD681, and it is best known for its elaborate half-timbered former Town Hall, located almost directly opposite the Britannia Coin Company and now a museum.
Formerly Wootton Bassett, our town gained its Royal Charter in 2011 in recognition of the spontaneous and heartfelt tributes paid by the townsfolk, during the military funeral repatriations which passed through the town from RAF Lyneham.
Royal Wootton Bassett is close to Avebury and its world-famous stone circle, Swindon with its Designer Outlet shopping centre and adjacent Steam Museum, and the beautiful rolling Wiltshire Downs with many delightful walks, picturesque villages and enticing pubs!
We are members of the BNTA – The British Numismatic Trade Association. This is an independent body which seeks to uphold the reputation of the trade, with alerts to hazards such as stolen coins and forgeries, offering you further reassurance.
