1982 seven coin annual set, featuring UK circulating coinage struck to proof standard including a proof 20p in its first mintage year. This new denomination features a reverse designed by William Gardner showing a crowned Tudor Rose design. It is joined by the definitive 50p-1/2p struck in base metal with Christopher Ironside's designs. This set does not include a One Pound coin as these were not introduced to circulation by The Royal Mint until the following year (1983). This collectable set, which makes a great coin gift, comes in a protective plastic sleeve which allows you to view both sides of each coin without incurring damage. This is enclosed within an attractive blue card envelope with silver lettering, original to the set. Your 1982 set, the first to offer a 20p, is pre-owned, no longer available, and one of 106,800 in the overall issue.

Significance Of 1982 Set

The 1982 sets are the first UK decimal collections to house a 20 Pence coin alongside the other definitive denominations. This first-year example enjoys a proof finish, making it notable among sets of the 1980s.

1982 Coinage Set

This year's set totals seven coins to reflect the addition of a new circulating denomination in the 20p coin. Each is struck in base metal:

  • 1982 Britannia 50p Proof
  • 1982 Tudor Rose 20p Proof
  • 1982 Crowned Lion 10p Proof
  • 1982 Scottish Thistle 5p Proof
  • 1982 Prince Of Wales 2p Proof
  • 1982 Portcullis 1p Proof
  • 1982 Crown Halfpenny Proof

Elizabeth II's Obverse Profile

The Queen's definitive effigy by Arnold Machin is welcomed to the obverse of these coins. It is struck onto each coin, including the first example of the 20p.

Limited Mintage UK Set

The Royal Mint issued 106,800 definitive coinage sets in 1982. The sets are no longer available new and are, therefore, pre-owned here.
