1982 UK Annual Set Proof First 20p

1982 Annual Set Proof The First 20p Boxed
1982 seven coin annual set, featuring UK circulating coinage struck to proof standard. 1982 saw the birth of Prince William, the launch of Channel 4 and it was the year that The Royal Mint introduced the first Twenty Pence pieces. From their inception until 2008 they would feature a reverse designed by William Gardner featuring a crowned Tudor rose design, the date divided and the numeral ’20’ below the leaves of the rose. Also included in this annual collection are examples of a 1982 Britannia 50p, a lion 10p, an old-style large 5p (re-sized in 1989), a 2p, a 1p and a Halfpenny coin (demonetised in 1984). This set does not include a One Pound coin as these were not introduced to circulation by The Royal Mint until the following year (1983). Each coin in this set is struck in cupronickel (the same as contemporary circulating coinage) but to a superior proof standard giving a finer finish achieved with multiple strikes of hand finished dies. This set comes in a protective plastic sleeve which allows you to view both sides of each coin without incurring damage. This is enclosed within an attractive blue card envelope with silver lettering, original to the set. You might note some toning to the coins which is typical for these sets several decades after they were issued.
