Low mintage 2001 silver bullion Britannia, supplied in the original Royal Mint packaging. Just 44,816 one-ounce Britannias were issued in 2001, making this early addition to the Britannia series particularly collectable. These coins feature a distinctive one-year-only reverse, used only in 2001 and designed by Philip Nathan. This engraving is a departure from his classic standing Britannia motif and shows the warrior goddess accompanied by a lion in a nod to historic British coinage. The vertical text adds a modern touch. The obverse shows Ian Rank-Broadley's regal portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. 2001 Britannias are struck in one troy ounce of 958 'Britannia silver' and feature a high-shine bullion finish. This edition comes in the original presentation card, which includes a built-in coin holder.

Britannia And Lion Reverse

Philip Nathan designed the image of Britannia used on this 2001 coin. She is shown with shield and trident, and the lion of England at her heel with 'ONE OUNCE FINE SILVER' to the left and 'BRITANNIA 2001' to the right.

Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth II

The obverse is the work of Ian Rank-Broadley and displays his fourth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, together with an inscription that reads '· ELIZABETH · II · D · G REG · FID · DEF ·' with '2 · POUNDS' below.

Made From 958 Britannia Silver

These Two Pound coins are struck in one troy ounce of .958 Britannia silver, rather than the 999 silver used for later issues, meaning they are somewhat heavier. This is a bullion strike with a uniform high-shine appearance.

Collectable Date: Low Mintage

Records indicate that The Royal Mint issued 44,816 silver 1oz bullion Britannias in 2001. This is a notably low mintage for the bullion Britannia series, which has been running since 1998 and is, as such, very collectable.

Presented In Royal Mint Card

This pre-owned coin is supplied in a presentation card which features information about the coin and a built-in holder. Please note that this is a bullion coin that is not fully encapsulated and may display toning and minor marks.
