1189-99 Richard I Hammered Silver Penny. Stivene on London

1189-99 Richard I Hammered Silver Penny. Steven on London reverse

* Images are of the actual product not stock images

A hammered silver Penny of king Richard the First (The Lionheart ) struck by the moneyer Stivene at the mint of London between the years 1189 to 1199. This coin of class 4a of the short cross type was struck bearing the name of ‘HENRICS’ throughout king Richards reign. The obverse typically of class 4 has a very crude crowned facing bust, with the reverse showing the short cross with four pellets in the quarters and the wording around for the moneyer and mint. These coins create an added fascinating addition to collecting due to the number of mints and moneyers in place during their production.
