Top pop gold third coinage King James I gold Laurel, graded MS 62 by NGC. Obverse: left-facing second, medium, square-headed laureate and draped portrait of the King within beaded circle. Laurels tied with ribbons that take the form of a double 'SS'. 'XX' to right, behind bust for value: Twenty Shillings. Mintmark: spur rowel (third coinage, 1619-1620). Legend: '· IACOBVS D: G: MAG: BRIT: FRAN: ET HIB: REX ·'. Reverse: crowned, flat-topped shield of royal arms, quartered by a fourchee longcross which extends through the beaded ring that encircles the central design. The shield shows the combined arms used by James after his accession to the English throne in 1603, following the death of Queen Elizabeth I. He had previously ruled as King of Scotland as James VI. Reverse legend reads: 'FACIAM EOS IN GENTEM VNAM' with no stops between the words. This translates to 'I will make them one nation'. Weight: 8.99 grams.
