Five ounce gold proof Royal Mint Three Graces coin, graded PF 70 Ultra Cameo by NGC and one of just 150 issued. The second entry into the celebrated Great Engraverse series, this stunning piece features a recreation of William Wyon's so-called 'Three Graces' pattern, produced by the engraver in 1817. The three female figures represent both the three Charities of Greek mythology and the three nations that then made up the United Kingdom: England, Scotland and Ireland. Wyon's elegant, neoclassical design bears a resemblance to Antonio Canova's sculpture, known by the same name. The original design was paired with a unique portrait of the monarch, King George III. On this 2020-dated issue from the UK's national mint the obverse features Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II along with the face value: £500. The Great Engravers series launched in 2019 with a collector's edition of William Wyon's Una and the Lion Five Pound coin and has since featured his Gothic Crown in a two-part 2021 issue. This five ounce Three Graces coin is struck in 156.295 grams of 999.9 gold, struck to a proof finish. The coin has been graded PF 70 Ultra Cameo and given a First Releases designation by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (reference # 6029927-004). It's presented sealed in its NGC holder with the original packaging and certificate of authenticity (# 18) supplied alongside. An incredible edition to any serious collection of modern British gold coins.
