This large 999 gold coin features a recreation of William Wyon's classic coinage design, originally struck on gold proof 1839 Five Pound coins. This iconic engraving was inspired by characters from Edmund Spencer's The Faerie Queene with Queen Victoria herself identfied as the centrlal female figure, guiding the lion of England. Produced by the Commonwealth Mint, this 142.61 gram coin is from a highly limited mintage featuring a special 'VR' cypher mintmark below the lion. A female figure identified as Queen Victoria or the character of Una from Edmund Spencer's The Faerie Queene. In this renowned design by William Wyon, she holds an orb and a sceptre with which she guides the lion of England.
