Available now: limited edition one ounce Harry Potter silver proof Two Pound coins from The Royal Mint. 2022 marks twenty-five years since the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (also known as the Sorcerer's Stone in the United States). The first book in J K Rowling's seven-part fantasy series was published in June 1997, inviting readers - young and old - to enter the magical world of Hogwarts. The story follows the school career of Harry Potter who discovers he’s a wizard on his eleventh birthday. Together with his friends Ron and Hermione, Harry spends much of his teenage years working to thwart Voldemort, the dark wizard who killed his parents. Translated into 73 languages, Harry Potter is the best-selling book series in history and spawned a slew of blockbuster movie adaptions. Collectors can enjoy a whole range of official and unofficial merch but there's never been an official UK coin featuring The Boy Who Lived: until now. This silver proof £2 coin is from the first release in The Royal Mint’s 25 Years of Magic collection and features a portrait of the boy wizard by Ffion Gwillim with vibrant colour printed detail. This is paired with Jody Clark’s fifth and final coin portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II, making this one of the last UK coins to show Her Majesty the Queen. It’s struck in 31.21 grams of .999 silver to the Mint’s finest proof standard, offering a superior appearance to circulating and BU coins. Just 15,000 of these collectors pieces have been issued and you can secure yours now with free UK shipping.

The Royal Mint's 25 Years Of Magic Collection
2022 marks twenty-five years since the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone: the first book in J K Rowling's seven-part fantasy series was published in June 1997.
The Harry Potter books are the best-selling series in history. They've been translated into 73 languages and adapted into a series of blockbuster films. Collectors can enjoy a whole range of official and unofficial merch but there's never been an official UK coin featuring The Boy Who Lived: until now.
To celebrate 25 Years of Magic, The Royal Mint is offering an extensive collection of commemorative coinage, inspired by the world of Harry Potter. It seems that there will be four designs in this collection, the first starring Harry himself with subsequent releases featuring the Hogwarts Express, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, and Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The magical designs that appear on The Royal Mint's 25 Years Of Magic coins are based on the work of illustrator Jim Kay. He's the artist behind fully illustrated editions of the Harry Potter books, released by Bloomsbury.
Kay's designs have been adapted for coinage by Ffion Gwillim, a product designer at The Royal Mint. Her work for the Harry Potter coins shows the boy wizard looking over his shoulder, surrounded by sparking stars.
Special latent feature: 2022 Harry Potter coins feature a lenticular security image which alternately shows a lightning bolt or the number '25' when the coin is moved.
It's the coins with colour-printed detail that best capture the charm of Jim Kay's designs: you can see this feature on the silver proof 50ps which comes in a special acrylic display case.
Final Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth II
The first Harry Potter coins were released just weeks after the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. Elizabeth II was succeeded by her son, King Charles III, on 8 September 2022.
The Royal Mint has announced that the first two collections in the 25 Years Of Magic series will feature Jody Clark's portrait of the late Queen: the fifth and final definitive portrait to be used on her coinage.
The following two releases will feature the new portrait of King Charles to the obverse. This effigy is the work of British sculptor Martin Jennings and shows the King facing left, the opposite direction to Elizabeth II. 25 Years Of Magic coins will be among the first UK commemorative coins to show Jennings' bust.
Are Royal Mint Harry Potter Coins Collectible?
Previous Royal Mint coins based on beloved children's books have proved incredibly popular. The ongoing Beatrix Potter series appeals both to coin collectors and those with nostalgic memories of her Little Tales. We anticipate that the 25 Years of Magic collection will be a favourite with those who've grown up with J K Rowling's stories.
Adding to the collectibility of these forthcoming Royal Mint coins is the fact that there are four different designs to collect. Each is available in a range of metals and finishes meaning that there's something in this collection for every budget.
Several of the 25 Years Of Magic series are available in highly limited numbers. Among the rarest coins in the collection is the 22-carat gold Harry Potter 50p with only 300 issued. The silver proof - also limited edition - are all sold out on The Royal Mint website but we've still got a small number of the .925 sterling silver 50ps, 1oz and 2oz coins in stock.

Steeped in more than 1,100 years of history, The Royal Mint supplies all of the United Kingdom's coinage as well as currency for nations around the world. Renown for craftsmanship and thoughtful design, The Royal Mint also produces commemorative coins, favoured by investors and collectors.
A Millennia of Minting
Founded in the reign of Alfred the Great, around the year 886, The Royal Mint was originally one of several mints which were centralised to London in 1279. For more than 800 years the Mint was based at the Tower of London before moving to Royal Mint Court where it remained until the 1960s.
The Royal Mint has always been on the forefront of economic, technical and artistic innovation. Its skilled craftsmen minted coins that would reach the far corners of the British Empire, establishing the image and reputation of Britain for all whose pockets they ended up in.
In 2010 The Royal Mint became a limited company owned by Her Majesty’s Treasury. In recent years the Mint has struck medals for the 2012 London Olympic Games and opened a visitor centre, The Royal Mint Experience, in Llantrisant, Wales: the current home of The Royal Mint.
Collecting and Investing
The Royal Mint's commemorative and bullion coins – often minted to mark important national events and anniversaries – are not intended for circulation. They might look like ordinary coins but they are generally worth much more, thanks to their scarcity, finish and composition.
Most commemorative coins produced by The Royal Mint are available in a range of striking standards including Gold Proof, Silver Proof, Brilliant Uncirculated and Bullion. Some are also available in collectors sets. Gold and Silver Proof coins are minted in small numbers, making them rare and desirable.
The Royal Mint's commemorative coins are both VAT-free and Capital Gains Tax (CGT) exempt, making them an attractive and valuable investment. Whether you are diversifying your investments or simply appreciate world-class design, commemorative coins from The Royal Mint are a great buy.

Reviews
We are always proud to show off our previous customers experiences with you and what they thought of our purchasing through with Britannia Coins.
Easy to use website. Fast and easy checkout. And items dispatch next business day with tracking. Only thing is coins sometimes are not up to snuff and have marks or spots Etc. BCC does quality checks but can be improved.

Buon giorno.

Very easy to use website I think you enter the website and there's the latest "live metal prices" with an "Enter Search Item" bar at the top of the page. I like the fact it has the search feature as the home page. When you search for the item(s) it quickly shows the results, along with images of the coins or coin sets. I like that, too. The only downside with these types of businesses, is that you can't get to see a close up image of the coin and/or coin set you are buying. I feel that, because this company buys coins from collectors, etc. that they will have several items that are the same, but in varying degrees of quality and condition, and then, when your buying a 2nd hand item, it's going to be a case of pot luck on what you're going to get. And so, if it was possible, I'd love for BCC to get images of each item that you're going to buy. This is so you know what you're getting before you buy it. That said, every item I've bought from BCC has been of a very nice quality. Two of the coins were of a staggering high quality and the two sets I bought were much better than the average coin sets from eBay. I would say that BCC are the best company in the UK when it comes to used and brand new coins and coin sets. Not only that, the speed at which they get your order processed and delivered to your door is very very fast. The packaging is also on point and highly professional. Also, and one of the most important things, I really trust the Britannia Coin Company. Their prices are very fair and their items are clean and in good condition. They also have a good standing within the coin community.
