Limited edition 22-carat gold full UK Sovereign, struck on the day of the Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip's platinum wedding anniversary. The pair married on 20 November 1947 at Westminster Abbey, London, before their coronation in 1953. In 2017, seventy years on, they celebrated a remarkable milestone for any couple. The Royal Mint marked the occasion with a collection of coins, including this sought-after piece, minted on the exact day of the anniversary. The obverse shows Jody Clark's fifth and final portrait of The Queen wearing the Diamond Diadem. The reverse shows the classic St George and the dragon motif: a perennial presence on gold Sovereigns over the last two centuries. Like most 'strike of the day' coins this 2017 piece features a brilliant uncirculated (BU) finish. The coin maintains the standard specifications laid down for this denomination during the reign of King George III, composed of exactly 7.98 grams of 916.7 gold. The high-shine finish of this pre-owned piece has been preserved by the original screw-top clear capsule and Royal Mint box of issue with a numbered and hand-signed certificate of authenticity enclosed. A key piece for royal fans and collectors of modern Sovereigns.
