Gold proof Quarter Sovereign, minted in 2010 from a limited edition presentation of 4,546 pieces. Though the modern 'full' Sovereign has been around since 1817, The Royal Mint only began striking Quarter Sovereigns in 2009. These fractional Sovereigns are struck in 1.99 grams of 22-carat gold: exactly a quarter of the gold content of a full Sovereign. This example, from the second year these coins were issued, features the classic Saint George and the dragon design, which has long been featured on larger coins in the Sovereign family. This is paired with a modern portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, as used on British money between 1998 and 2015. This pre-owned proof Quarter Sovereign comes in its original presentation case from The Royal Mint with a numbered certificate of authenticity.

Classic Saint George Reverse

Benedetto Pistrucci designed the reverse of this coin back in 1817, and his instantly recognisable Saint George and the dragon motif has been used on Sovereigns of all kinds ever since. The date (2010) is shown below the ground line.

Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth II

The reverse of this Quarter Sovereign displays the fourth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, with a legend around it that reads 'ELIZABETH ∙ II ∙ DEI ∙ GRA REGINA ∙ FID ∙ DEF ∙'.

Struck In Solid 22-Carat Gold

Quarter Sovereigns are minted in 1.99 grams of 22-carat gold, a quarter of the weight of a standard full Sovereign. Measuring 13,50 millimetres in diameter, this edition boasts an appealing proof finish with high-shine surfaces.

Limited Edition Presentation

Records show that The Royal Mint struck 4,546 gold proof Quarter Sovereigns in 2010 for release in an individual presentation, with further coins (1,461) authorised for inclusion in sets. A bullion coin was also issued in this year.

Pre-Owned Royal Mint Coin

We will supply your pre-owned 2009 gold proof Quarter Sovereign in the official Mint packaging, which includes a wooden display box, an individual clear capsule and the original numbered certificate of authenticity.
