The first Quarter Sovereign! These fractional gold coins were introduced by The Royal Mint in 2009 as an addition to their gold Sovereign range. Quarter Sovereigns are exactly a quarter of the weight of standard 'full' Sovereigns, struck in 1.99 grams of 22-carat gold. These coins have been issued annually since 2009, but this first edition is a highly sought-after piece. 2009 Quarter Sovereigns feature Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, while Benedetto Pistrucci's classic Saint George design appears on the reverse. This pre-owned, uncirculated bullion coin is supplied in the original Royal Mint presentation box with the coin encapsulated in a card to protect the finish.

1/4 Sovereign Specifications

Quarter Sovereigns are minted in 1.99 grams of 22-carat gold, meaning they contain exactly a quarter of the actual gold content of a standard 'full' Sovereign. This 2009 coin is struck to The Royal Mint's bullion standard.

Limited Mintage Gold Coin

The UK's national mint authorised the production of 50,000 gold Quarter Sovereigns in 2009, though it is thought that fewer than this were actually issued. A further 11,745 gold proof 2009 Quarter Sovereigns were also issued.

The First Gold Quarter Sovereign

2009 was the first year that official Quarter Sovereigns were produced by The Royal Mint, and they have been issued annually ever since. This pre-owned coin comes in the original card presentation box with the coin encapsulated.
