1902 gold Five Sovereign, struck in Edward VII's coronation year and graded by NGC. Edward succeeded his mother, Queen Victoria, on her passing in 1901 and was crowned at Westminster Abbey the following year. The obverse of this coin shows the right-facing bare-head portrait of the King by George William de Saulles with the words 'EDWARDVS VII DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX FID: DEF: IND: IMP:'. The reverse features the instantly recognisable image of Saint George on horseback with the date (1902) below. This is the work of Italian artist Benedetto Pistrucci and has been a hallmark of coins in the Sovereign family since 1817. This 22-carat gold coin, from a mintage of 34,910, has been independently authenticated and graded. A great addition to any collection.
