2021 Britannia Designs
2021 marked the first time The Royal Mint offered two special designs on the proof Britannia: a 'premium' design and an 'exclusive' design.
The premium Britannias feature a one-year-only design by PJ Lynch to the reverse showing her seated, wearing a corinthian helmet, a Union Flag shield at her side along with a trident, symbolising her dominion over the seas. She rests her arm on a maned lion, perched at her feet.
An smaller number of 2021 Britannias feature the exclusive reverse. PJ Lynch is again the artist behind this stunning design, which is a modern version of Britannia. It reflects the changing face of Britain, highlighting how diverse the nation is today.
Both of these engravings are paired with Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the face value in the legend.
