Collectors set of sterling silver boxes from The Royal Mint featuring three numismatic designs inspired by the legend of Saint George.
Crafted by renowned silversmith Christopher Lawrence, these pill boxes have lids featuring the work of William Wyon, Benedetto Pistrucci and Percy Metcalfe. While Pistrucci's Saint George is instantly recognisable from its perennial use on gold Sovereigns, and Metcalfe's 'Rocking Horse' design will be familiar to collectors from the 1935 Crown, Wyon's St George was only used on Victorian medals but remains a worthy addition.

This collector's set from The Royal Mint features three hallmarked sterling silver boxes, crafted by silversmith Christopher Lawrence, with lids featuring different interpretations of the legend of Saint George that have featured on coins over the centuries.
Benedetto Pistrucci's Saint George broke convention when it first appeared on gold Sovereigns in 1817, but has proved to be one of the most enduring designs in British coinage history, used on millions of UK coins.
William Wyon was Chief Engraver to the Royal Mint and a contemporary and rival of Pistrucci. His alternate Saint George design was used on a medal for Prince Albert, but never on coinage, and proves a worthy challenger.
Percy Metcalfe's St George was used on the 1935 Crown coin, struck to celebrate King George V's Silver Jubilee. Known as the 'Rocking Horse' Crown, these coins feature a distinct aesthetic, typical of the 1930s.
Christopher Lawrence is an award-winning British silversmith, known for his presentation pieces and limited editions. His clients include the Bank of England and many companies, banks and councils.
Just 500 of these silver St George and the dragon box sets were issued by The Royal Mint as part of this collection. These pre-owned sets are supplied in a leather case with an information booklet and a certificate of authenticity.
