This premium proof set contains three coins: a 2019 Double Sovereign, a ‘full’ Sovereign and a Half Sovereign, comprising 25.62 grams of fine gold between them. Each coin is struck to long-standing specifications in 22 carat gold. The proof finish is achieved with multiple strikes of hand-finished dies. All the coins in this set feature Jody Clark’s portrait of Her Majesty the Queen to the obverse. In used British money since 2015, this is the fifth official effigy of Elizabeth II to be used on her coinage. This is paired with Benedetto Pistrucci’s depiction of England’s patron saint, St George. Crafted for the first modern Sovereigns, issued in 1817, the design shows the George on horseback, a dragon crushed beneath his steed’s hooves with the date below. Your 2019 premium Sovereign set comes in its original case, capsule and cardboard presentation box. Also included: a numbered certificate of authenticity that confirms this piece is from a limited edition presentation of just 450 pieces.

Three-coin 2019 premium gold proof Sovereign set featuring the classic Saint George reverse.

Proof Sovereign Sets

The very first gold Sovereigns were struck in the 1400s by the Tudor kings and their prestigious legacy was reclaimed when the modern Sovereign was introduced in 1817. Over the next century, Sovereigns became prized across the British Empire, trusted to contain a known and significant quantity of gold.

Sovereigns once circulated across the globe but production ceased with the outbreak of the First World War. Reintroduced in 1957, annual issues attract investors and collectors with limited edition proof Sovereigns - hand-finished for a flawless effect - the most sought-after.

Proof Sovereigns were initially only struck by The Royal Mint to celebrate coronations. The first proof pieces would be issued for collector’s in 1979 with limited edition sets offered for the first time in 1980. Since then, boxed sets containing coins from each year's Sovereign family have attracted a dedicated group of collectors.

Three Gold Sovereigns

This set contains a Double Sovereign, a 'full' Sovereign and a Half Sovereign, all dated 2019. In total the three 22 carat coins offer 25.62 grams of fine gold.

Just 450 of these premium three-coin Sovereign sets were issued by The Royal Mint in 2019.

Each coin shows Jody Clark's portrait of Her Majesty the Queen to the obverse, in use on British money since 2015. The reverse features Benedetto Pistrucci's classic Saint George and the dragon design. His depiction of England's patron saint shows him in the act of slaying the prone beast, crushed beneath his horses hooves.

Collector's Sovereign Set

Your 2019 Sovereigns come in their original packaging from The Royal Mint. Each coin is sealed within its capsule, inside an attractive presentation case, complete with a detailed information booklet and a numbered certificate of authenticity.

All Sovereigns, including those in this set are exempt from Capital Gains Tax as UK legal tender and free from VAT in the UK and EU as investment grade gold.

You can also acquire the 2019 proof 'full' Sovereign on its own (only 9,500 of these were issued). The same coin is available in a bullion finish if you choose our 2019 investors Sovereigns. If you're not worried about the date we also offer mixed-year Sovereigns at our best value price.
