Buy a 2016 Proof Half Sovereign

Gold proof UK Half Sovereign with a special obverse, commissioned to celebrate Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday. This coin features a brand new, one-off effigy of our longest reigning monarch, wearing the George IV State Diadem. It's the work of British sculptor James Butler and was authorised for use only on proof coins in the 2016 Sovereign family. Bullion pieces struck by The Royal Mint in the same year feature Jody Clark's fifth definitive coin portrait of The Queen. Butler's design is paired with the classic St George and the dragon reverse. This mainstay of UK coinage art was created by Italian artist Benedetto Pistrucci during the reign of King George III and has been a perennial presence on these gold coins down the centuries. Today's Half Sovereigns conform to the same exacting specifications established 200 years previously. This 2016 proof coin is struck in 3.99 grams of 91.67% pure gold and measures 19.30 millimetres from milled edge to milled edge. We're offering this pre-owned Half Sovereign in its original presentation packaging from The Royal Mint with its numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed. Just 1,995 collectors coins like this one were issued by the UK's national mint in this individual presentation: secure yours now.
