Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on the obverse of UK 2005 Sovereigns, accompanied by a legend that reads 'ELIZABETH ∙ II ∙ DEI ∙ GRA ∙ REGINA ∙ FID ∙ DEF ∙'.
Coins in the 2005 Sovereign family feature a one-year-only reverse design by Timothy Noad, which is a reinterpretation of the classic Saint George and the dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci. Noad's St George wields his sword at the fork-tongued beast from behind his shield. The date (2005) appears below the dragon's wing.
Gold Sovereigns are minted in 7.98 grams of 22-carat gold and offer investors 0.2354 troy ounces of pure precious metal. This 2005 coin is struck to The Royal Mint's bullion standard and is offered in uncirculated condition.
The Royal Mint issued 45,542 bullion sovereigns in 2005, somewhat less than the published 50,000 limited-edition coins issued for this year. A smaller number of gold proof 2005 Sovereigns and coins intended for proof Sovereign sets were also issued.
This is a pre-owned Royal Mint bullion coin, supplied in the original presentation card. Please note that the coin is not fully encapsulated and can easily be removed from the holder.
