Carded gold Sovereign from The Royal Mint with one-year-only Saint George and the dragon design. Millions of gold Sovereigns have been struck with Benedetto Pistrucci's classic Saint George and the dragon reverse. This 2005 coin is one of very few modern Sovereigns to be minted with a variant reverse design. Timothy Noad's 2005 Sovereign is an alternate interpretation of the legend of England's patron saint. His engraving centres on a crusader shield with Saint George's Cross, which protects a sword-wielding Saint about to strike a winged dragon. It's an action-packed, dynamic image paired with Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Struck in 7.98 grams of 22-carat gold to The Royal Mint's bullion standard, these 2005 St George coins are available in their original card presentation sleeve.

2005 Saint George Reverse

Coins in the 2005 Sovereign family feature a one-year-only reverse design by Timothy Noad, which is a reinterpretation of the classic Saint George and the dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci. Noad's St George wields his sword at the fork-tongued beast from behind his shield. The date (2005) appears below the dragon's wing.
