Buy a 2000 Five Sovereign

The only bullion Five Sovereign coin ever issued by The Royal Mint. Modern Quintuple Sovereigns have always been issued with a proof or brilliant uncirculated finish, with the exception of this 2000 gold £5 coin. Minted to a historic specification in 39.94 grams of 22-carat gold, this coin has become a collector's piece since just 4,177 of them were issued, originally in a printed presentation card. These unusual coins feature the classic Saint George and the dragon reverse by Benedetto Pistrucci, paired with Ian Rank-Bradley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. This scarce one-off piece is an essential addition to any complete Five Sovereign collection.

Benedetto Pistrucci designed the instantly recognisable image of Saint George on horseback, shown slaying a dragon, that appears on the reverse of this coin, with the date (2000) displayed below.

Portrait Of Queen Elizabeth II

Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is shown on the obverse of this unusual Five Sovereign, together with a Latin inscription that reads 'ELIZABETH · II · DEI · GRA REGINA · FID · DEF'.

The Only Bullion Quintuple Sovereign

This Quintuple Sovereign is struck in 39.94 grams of 22-carat gold and is the only coin of its kind to date issued by The Royal Mint with a bullion finish. Like other Five Sovereigns, this piece measures 36.02 millimetres from milled edge to milled edge.

Mintage: 2000 Bullion Gold £5

The packaging that these coins were originally supplied in indicates an issue limit of 10,000 coins, but Marsh records a mintage of 4,177. Proof and brilliant uncirculated Five Sovereigns were also minted in the year 2000.

Supplied In Royal Mint Card

This pre-owned 2000 Quintuple Sovereign is supplied in the original presentation card from The Royal Mint. Please note that the coin is not entirely encapsulated by the packaging.
