This premium UK collectors' coin is the first gold £5 to feature Raphael Maklouf's definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, showing Her Majesty wearing the Diamond Diadem. Maklouf's elegant effigy is paired with a classic reverse, depicting the legend of Saint George and the dragon, created in the early 19th century by Italian artist Benedetto Pistrucci. A tiny 'U' mintmark to the left of the date is a feature unique to BU coins in the Quintuple Sovereign series. One of 13,626 coins issued by the Mint in 1985, this pre-owned Five Sovereign is supplied in its original presentation case, complete with a numbered certificate.
