Buy a 1984 BU Five Sovereign

Add a 1984 brilliant uncirculated gold Five Sovereign to your collection: the first Quintuple Sovereign ever issued by The Royal Mint in a BU finish. This milestone release began a tradition of annual collector-focused gold £5 coins. Each piece is struck in 39.94 grams of 22-carat gold, following the long-standing Five Sovereign specification established in 1817. The obverse features Arnold Machin's refined second portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, while the reverse bears Benedetto Pistrucci's timeless design of Saint George slaying the dragon. Distinguishing this coin from the proof version is a discreet 'U' mintmark in a circle, placed to the left of the date (1984). Unusually, these coins were presented sealed in a black presentation card, adding to their collectable appeal.

Second Portrait Of Elizabeth II

The obverse shows the familiar Arnold Machin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, paired with the surrounding Latin legend: 'ELIZABETH · II · DEI · GRATIA · REGINA · F: D:'.
