Limited edition three-coin gold proof British Sovereign collection from 1998, still in the original Royal Mint presentation case. 1998 was the year the Good Friday agreement was signed and Google, Inc. was founded. Decades on, the Double Sovereign, 'full' Sovereign and Half Sovereign in this set remain in pristine condition, still sealed inside their clear capsules. The UK's national mint authorised 2,000 of these sets for worldwide distribution but reportedly only 560 were issued. Each piece features Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth definitive coin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II: introduced to UK currency in this year and used until 2015. The reverses of these 1998 coins all show the classic St George and the dragon motif by Benedetto Pistrucci. These Sovereigns are technically UK legal tender currency so they are exempt from Capital Gains Tax. As investment gold they are also VAT free. Between the coins in this 1998 set there are 27.95 grams of 22-carat (916.7) fine gold. That's an actual gold weight of 25.62 grams or 0.8237 troy ounces. Each coin is struck to the standard specifications with a fine proof finish. You'll receive these 1998 Sovereigns with a special Royal Mint medal as well as their numbered certificate of authenticity inside their leather box of issue.
