Trafalgar Square in London features on the third BUnc silver 100 Pound coin to be issued by the Royal Mint. Although the site has been a landmark in London since the 13th century, it wasn't until the 19th century that the famous square took the form that we see today, opening to the public in 1844. The square was originally intended to be named for William IV for his coronation, however, it was decided that the square be named after Trafalgar to commemorate the famous naval victory over Napoleon. The iconic images of Trafalgar Square are featured on the £100 coin's reverse - Nelson's Column and the bronze lions. Glyn Davies and Laura Clancy placed Nelson's Column in the background, in front of the National Gallery, with the magnificent lion facing to the right in the foreground. This stunning reverse design is complemented by Jody Clark's engraving of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. Each coin is struck twice to a 'brilliant uncirculated' finish, which is the common standard for Royal Mint commemorative coins. It's issued in a limited edition presentation slipcase, limited to 45,000 sets. Specifications of the coin are a fine metal weight of just over two troy ounces of silver and measures 40.00 millimetres in diameter. A fantastic UK collectable coin, available now with free UK delivery.
