2016 Celebrate William Shakespeare Fifty Pound Silver Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder

UK16SP50 2016 Celebrate William Shakespeare Fifty Pound Silver Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder
from
£70.00
2016 marked 400 years since the death of 'England's national poet', William Shakespeare, and the Royal Mint has commemorated this with the release of a BUnc silver Fifty Pound coin. Issued in the original limited edition packaging, the coin has a maximum mintage of just 15,000 pieces. William Shakespeare is possibly the greatest writer in the English language to have lived, with his extant works still being performed and cherished over 400 years since they were originally written. The experienced Royal Mint engraver, John Bergdahl, was responsible for the reverse design and he captures the symbols synonymous with Shakespeare's plays: two drama masks, one for comedy and one for tragedy. The legend on the outside ring of this 'tails' design reads 'WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE 2016'. On the obverse, or 'heads', side of the coin, one can see the official portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II. This effigy of Her Majesty is the fifth portrait of her to feature on UK coinage and it was designed by Jody Clark. Each commemorative coin is housed in a coin slipcase, with has the contemporary Cobbe portrait of Shakespeare displayed on the packaging. Although occasionally advertised as being a one-ounce coin, this £50 UK coin has a silver content of 30.97 grams, which is actually 0.9957 troy ounces. It measures 34.00 millimetres in diameter and is struck to a brilliant uncirculated standard, making it perfect for coin collectors.
