Buy a 2010 Girl Guiding Fifty Pence Piedfort Silver Proof Coin

2010 marked one hundred years since the the foundation of the Girl Guides organisation in the UK. The movement was established in 1910 by Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell’s sister, Agnes Baden-Powell, after calls for a similar group for girls. Today, the Girl Guides (Girl Scouts in the US) are a worldwide movement, bringing outdoor and personal development activities to millions of young people. This Fifty Pence coin, designed by Jonathan Evans and Donna Hainan celebrates the centenary of this remarkable organisation. Their design features the historic, trefoil or clover logo used by UK Girlguiding. It represents the three parts of the Guides promise: a duty to your beliefs, your country and the Guide Law. The legend around reads: ‘CELEBRATING ONE HUNDRED YEARS OF GIRLGUIDING’. This design is paired with Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Elizabeth II to the obverse. This piedfort example is struck in 16.00 grams of .925 sterling silver. That’s twice the weight of an average 50p and its twice the thickness too. From a limited edition presentation of just 1,298, this Fifty Pence is struck to proof standard with multiple strike of specially prepared dies. This makes for a flawless finish with more detail than a circulating coin. Its offered in its original packaging from The Royal Mint with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
