One of the first silver Britannias. 1997 marked 300 years since the Britannia silver hallmarking standard was introduced, and 10 years since The Royal Mint launched the gold Britannia. This 1997 Two Pound coin marks the occasion with a specially designed reverse by Philip Nathan, featuring Britannia driving a horse-drawn chariot across the sea shore. Nathan is responsible for several Britannia reverses, including the classic standing Britannia used on many issues. On this large silver £2 his design is paired with Raphael Maklouf’s portrait of Elizabeth II. The coin - one of 4,173 minted - is struck to proof standard in 32.454 grams of .958 sterling silver and has a diameter of 40.00 millimetres Its delivered in its presentation packaging from The Royal Mint with its certificate of authenticity.
