A first for The Royal Mint and UK coinage: a silver proof Five Pound coin struck specially in a convex shape, giving a unique 'domed' appearance. To celebrate 150 years since the opening of the Royal Albert Hall, the Mint issued a set of commemorative Five Pound coins. This unique £5 has a limited edition presentation of 3,500 coins. The famous landmark of London was opened by Queen Victoria in 1871, who named it after Prince Albert, her late husband. It was Prince's original idea that the hall be built, and in the century and a half of its existence the venue has played host to many of the world's leading musical acts, from serene ballet performances to electric rock and roll concerts. Royal Academian artist Anne Desmet was commissioned by the Royal Mint to design the coin's reverse. Desmet creates a bird's eye view of the hall, which is visually pleasing and intriguing. The stunning design is enhanced by the domed surface, which elevates all the intricate details of her engraving. The text on the outer ring reads 'ROYAL ALBERT HALL 1871 2021', with the coin's edge having a milled appearance. Desmet's engraving is complemented on the obverse by Jody Clark's engraving of Queen Elizabeth II, which is the fifth definitive effigy of Her Majesty to appear on UK coinage. Like all standard silver proof UK Crown coins, it contains 28.28 grams of 92.5% fine silver (sterling) and has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. You'll receive your limited edition coin complete in the original large-size Royal Mint presentation box with a numbered certificate of authenticity, which has been specifically designed for this one-off domed coin. A great opportunity to own a truly unique British coin.
