From an limited edition presentation of 8,750: the 2019 silver proof D-Day Two Pound coin. 2019 marked 75 years since over three million men gathered in Southern England to launch one of the most audacious seaborne assaults in history. The Royal Mint marked this special anniversary with the release of several commemorative £2 coins in gold proof, silver proof and BU base metal. On the 6th of June 1944, the armies of Great Britain, the United States and Canada launched Operation Overlord: an attack on German-occupied France from the land, sea, and sky. Five beachheads were targeted by the Allied Forces, who codenamed the landing sites 'Utah', 'Omaha', 'Gold', 'Juno' and 'Sword'. Stephen Taylor's reverse design on this collectable coin is inspired by this plan, showing five arrows thrusting onto the Normandy coastline. On the obverse to Taylor's design is Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which was the fifth official effigy used of her on circulating UK coinage. During production, the coin is struck up to six times using highly polished dies to give an attractive proof finish. It weighs 12.00 grams, measures 28.40 millimetres in diameter and is made from sterling silver, which has a precious metal fineness of 92.50%. A gold-plated rim replicates the appearance of a bimetallic circulating Two Pound coin. We'll supply your pre-owned silver coin complete in its original packaging, consisting of presentation box and numbered certificate. It advised that you leave your coin in its protective capsule to preserve its fine proof finish.
