1988 UK Premium Proof Annual 7 Coin Set

1988 UK Premium Proof Annual 7 Coin Set
The year 1988 marked the launch of Comic Relief and the first Red Nose Day, as well as the Seoul Olympic Games, and the publication of popular books such as Matilda by Roald Dahl and A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking. Royal Mint 1988 proof annual set featuring definitive editions of the seven UK coins issued in this year. All seven of the coins in this annual set feature the stunning Raphael Maklouf portrait of the Queen, the third official effigy to be used on circulating coins. Included are a One Pound, Fifty Pence, Twenty Pence, Ten Pence, Five Pence, Two Pence, and One Pence. They are made of bronze, nickel-brass, or cupro-nickel, which is the same as the coins in regular circulation. However, they are struck in a much higher proof finish meaning the details and more crisp and clear, and the finish shinier. It involves multiple strikes by hand finished dies. These coins are presented in an acrylic case which means both the obverse and reverse of the coins are visible without removing them from their protective casing and risking damage. They are presented in their original red leather presentation display case. Some of the coins may have experienced toning, this is typical for coins which were issued several decades ago.
