1974 UK Annual Set Proof

1974 Annual Set Proof Base Metal Boxed
Do you remember 1974? This UK six coin proof set from The Royal Mint is a great way to look back on the year Richard Nixon resigned as US President and Muhammed Ali defeated George Foreman during the Rumble in the Jungle. The set features the decimal coins issued in this year, including a Fifty Pence piece, a Ten Pence piece, a Five Pence piece, a Two Pence piece, a One Pence piece and a Halfpenny bit, all dated 1972. They all feature Arnold Machin’s portrait of Elizabeth II on the obverse which is the second official portrait used on circulating coinage. These coins are composed of the same metal alloy as the coins you would have found in your change. The difference is their finer proof finish. Proof coins are struck twice with specially finished dies, ensuring a higher level of detail can be appreciated in the designs. They are intended only for collectors. This set is offered in its original brown craft card presentation envelope with embossed metallic lettering to the front. The coins in the set are sealed in a double sided plastic sleeve, meaning you can view obverse and reverse without handling the individual pieces. These sets often show signs of toning, typical for these collectibles, nearly five decades after they were issued.
