£5,250.00
One of just 20 issued! A very scarce 99.95% platinum proof Five Pound coin, issued by The Royal Mint. This piece celebrates a remarkable milestone for Queen Elizabeth II: 60 years since her accession, also known as a Diamond Jubilee. Coins from this exclusive range are the first struck to mark a British monarch's Diamond Jubilee (Queen Victoria marked hers in 1897 but no special coins were issued). This piedfort Five Pound piece shows a pair of unique portraits, both designed by celebrated sculptor Ian Rank-Broadley. The obverse shows a mature Elizabeth II, facing right, wearing the elaborate robes of the Order of the Garter. This is accompanied by an adaption of Mary Gillick's first official portrait used on Her Majesty's coinage in 1953 with the legend 'DIR IGE DEVS GRESSVS MEOS' (translation: may God guide my steps). These words first appeared on the Una and the Lion gold £5 coin issued 1839. In Rank-Broadley's rendition, the young Queen wears a crown of laurels and another sprig appears below the truncation of her neck. The edge inscription reads 'A VOW MADE GOOD' in reference to a speech made by the then Princess Elizabeth in 1947. This premium pre-owned UK coin is composed of 94.20 grams of 999.5 platinum and measures 38.61 millimetres in diameter. It's offered in its original presentation packaging from The Royal Mint, sealed in a screw-top capsule and accompanied by a numbered certificate of authenticity. A truly rare modern British coin with a beautiful design.
