Rare Royal Mint piedfort platinum proof coin, issued to celebrate the christening of Prince George of Cambridge. From a limited edition presentation of just 75 with reportedly only 38 issued! This scarce Crown coin comes in its original presentation packaging with a numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their first child, Prince George, on 22 July 2013. His arrival made Queen Elizabeth II the first reigning monarch to welcome a great-grandchild since Queen Victoria. The future King's birth was the first to be marked by official UK commemorative coinage, as was his christening in October of the same year. Like many royal children before him, Prince George was christened using the Lily Font which inspired John Berghdahl's design for this £5 coin. His elaborate Baroque-style cartouche is flanked by two cherubs with the central inscription reading: 'To celebrate the Christening of PRINCE GEORGE of CAMBRIDGE 2013.' A ribbon along the bottom of the design displays the royal motto 'DIEU ET MON DROIT' (God and my right). The obverse shows the fourth official effigy of The Queen, by Ian Rank-Broadley. This piedfort coin is struck in 94.20 grams of .9995 platinum with the standard 38.61 millimetre dimeter, measured milled edge to milled edge. A rare modern UK coin, seldom seen for sale.
