King George V 1935 silver proof Crown with raised edge lettering in the original box of issue. This coin was minted to celebrate George V's Silver Jubilee, marking 25 years since his accession to the throne. Although Crowns had fallen out of general circulation some decades prior, these 50% silver coins were minted as souvenirs, featuring a special St George and the dragon design created by Percy Metcalfe. These coins are sometimes known as 'Rocking Horse' crowns in reference to the stylised design. While the standard 1935 commemorative Crown features incuse (impressed) lettering to the edge, some 2,500 were issued with a raised (relief) inscription and a proof or specimen finish. Examples are often found in a red card fitted box with a crown printed on the lid. The 1935 Silver Jubilee Crown coin shown in the images on this page is the example you will receive, with the photographs providing a good representation of its relative grade.

So-called 'Rocking Horse' Crowns get their name from the Art Deco-style Saint George and the dragon design, created by Percy Metcalfe, specifically for this issue. The stylised horse being ridden by England's patron saint is said to resemble a rocking horse. The words 'CROWN 1935' appear above.
The edge of this coin features raised (relief) lettering that reads 'DECUS ET TUTAMEN. ANNO REGNI XXV.'. Standard 1935 Silver Jubilee Crowns feature the same inscription in engraver (incuse) lettering.
This is a proof or 'specimen' coin, struck for collectors in 28.3 grams of 50% silver. The silver content is standard for British silver coins from this decade. The diameter of the coin is 38.6 millimetres from edge to edge.
