1906 matching Edward VII royal Maundy money set in dated case. This set contains a matched Maundy Fourpence, Threepence, Twopence and Penny, all dated 1906. The obverse of these coins shows the right facing portrait of the King-Emperor by George William de Saulles, scaled for the size of the denomination. he reverse features a crowned numeral within a wreath, a motif first used during the reign of William and Mary hardly altered since 1822. In the early part of the twentieth century the monarch seldom disturbed maundy money in person though members of the royal family were known to attend. During Edward’s relatively short reign the ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey. This set is offered in a dated case which may be contemporary and is certainly in good condition. Grade: UNC - Very slightly toned with significant reflection and lustre, plus a hint of colour. Very minor tone spotting on the 3d coin but otherwise an excellent set.
