Buy a 1937 Coronation Gold Medal (31.7mm)

Official Royal Mint 31.7mm small gold medal by Percy Metcalfe, issued for the 1937 Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

Just 422 of these high-shine, 22-carat gold commemorative medals were struck, alongside more common silver editions, to celebrate George VI's Coronation at Westminster Abbey. The design is the work of the sculptor behind the 1935 'Rocking Horse' Crown and the coinage of the Irish Free State.

  • The obverse shows the King crowned with 'GEORGE VI CROWNED 12 MAY 1937' around
  • Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, shown on the reverse, 'QVEEN ELIZABETH 12 MAY 1937'
  • Originally supplied in a red leather presentation case with gold lettering to the lid

Eimer 2046b, BHM 4314, Wollaston 29
