NGC graded gold medal, struck to celebrate the coronation of King George IV in 1821. It features a stunning, high-relief portrait bust of George by the Italian engraver, Benedetto Pistrucci, who is best known for his St George and the dragon design, used on gold Sovereigns. The King faces left and is shown with intricate curling hair and a wreath of laurel leaves, tied at the back of his neck with a long ribbon. The legend around reads 'GEORGIUS III D. G. BRITANNIARUM. REX F. D.'. The artist's initials 'B. P.' Appear below the truncation of the neck. The reverse - also by Pistrucci - shows George being crowned by the winged figure of Victory while Britannia, Hibernia and Scotia look on. The legend above reads 'PROPRIO JAM JURE ANIMO PATERNO.' Which translates as 'Now in his own right with his father's mind'. The inscription below reads 'INAUGURATUS DIE. JULII. XIX ANNO. MDCCCXXI' (the date of George IV's coronation: 19 July 1821). Diameter: 35.00 millimetres. This example has been graded AU 58 by the Numismatic Guaranty Company and is supplied in a clear, double-sided holder. NGC certification number: 6674054-002.
