The eagerly anticipated 2026 bullion Sovereign from The Royal Mint marks the return of traditional yellow gold, a feature not seen on modern Sovereigns for more than twenty years. Struck in 22-carat (91.67%) gold, this flagship British coin reintroduces the rich hue of historic Sovereigns while debuting enhanced security features, including a latent image and microtext, both confirmed by a recent Royal Proclamation published in the London Gazette. The obverse of 2026 bullion Sovereigns carries Martin Jennings' definitive effigy of King Charles III, while the reverse revives Benedetto Pistrucci's legendary Saint George and the dragon design. Containing 7.32 grams of fine gold, these VAT-free, CGT-exempt investment coins unites tradition with modern innovation.

The 2026 bullion Sovereign reintroduces the classic yellow-gold tone used for centuries on British Sovereigns, replacing the rose alloy that has defined recent issues. This return to a historic 19th-century yellow colour is expected to appeal to both long-term investors and modern buyers.
A recent Royal Proclamation, published in the London Gazette, confirms that the 2026 Half Sovereign will feature brand new security features, including a latent image and microtext, both already used on the Royal Mint's Britannia series.
The obverse will feature Martin Jennings' definitive portrait of King Charles III, accompanied by the inscription 'CHARLES III · DEI · GRA · REX · FID · DEF'. A subtle latent feature has also been integrated into the design for the first time on a Sovereign.
The reverse will display Benedetto Pistrucci's iconic Saint George and the dragon motif, enriched with microtext reading 'HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE', the motto of the Order of the Garter. This pairing of artistry and technology elevates the Sovereign's enduring appeal.
Each 2026 Sovereign will be struck to an established standard in 7.98 grams of 22-carat gold, providing 7.32 grams of fine gold (0.2354 troy ounces). The coin combines investment reliability with timeless British heritage.
Recognised globally and backed by The Royal Mint, the 2026 Sovereign is both VAT-free and CGT-exempt in the UK. The introduction of new security features, combined with the traditional yellow-gold alloy, makes it one of the most forward-thinking releases in the series' long history.
