Buy a 2016 Battle Of Hastings 50p Gold Proof

Buy a gold proof Fifty Pence coin, issued by The Royal Mint to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Hastings which might be the most famous battle ever fought on English soil. It brought together the Norman-French army of William of Normandy, later known as William the Conqueror, opposite an English army under Harold Godwinson near Hastings in East Sussex. William's victory over Harold on 14 October 1066 marked the beginning of the Norman Conquest of England, documented in the Bayeux Tapestry. The design of this official UK coin illustrates the moment of Harold Godwinson's death, reportedly via an arrow to his eye, as depicted in the tapestry. This historic design was adapted for coinage by renowned numismatic designer John Bergdahl and is accompanied by the anniversary dates '1066' and '2016'. Bergdahl's design is paired with an obverse portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. While the face value of this collectable British coin is just 50p, it's struck in 15.50 grams of 22-carat gold to a fine proof finish and is one of just 350 coins offered in this limited edition presentation. This pre-owned collectors coin is available in its original packaging from The Royal Mint with a numbered certificate of authenticity enclosed.
