This 2015 Gem Proof Five pound is a one of the first one hundred struck in this issue! On 5th July 2015, Princess Charlotte, second child of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, was christened at the church of St Mary Magdalene on the Sandringham Estate. To mark this special event, The Royal Mint released a range of commemorative Crown coins. This piece echoes the design of coins issued for the christening of Princess Charlotte’s elder brother in that it includes her full name: Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge in a motif surrounded by cherubs. This is the work of engraver John Bergdahl and is paired with Jody Clark’s portrait of Charlotte’s great-grandmother, Elizabeth II. It’s the fifth official effigy of Her Majesty the Queen and has was introduced the year this coin was issued. This gold £5 Crown is from a limited edition presentation of 250 pieces and is struck in 39.94 grams of 22 carat gold. This example has been graded ‘Gem Proof’ by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation.
