COA #2! Premium UK five ounce 999 gold proof coin from The Royal Mint, struck to celebrate the christening of Prince George of Wales. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their first child, Prince George, on 22 July 2013. His arrival made Queen Elizabeth II the first reigning monarch to welcome a great-grandchild since Queen Victoria. The future King's birth was the first to be marked by official UK commemorative coinage, as was his christening in October of the same year. Like many royal children before him, Prince George was christened using the Lily Font which inspired John Berghdahl's design for this stunning 5 troy ounce coin. His elaborate Baroque-style cartouche is flanked by two cherubs with the central inscription reading: 'To celebrate the Christening of PRINCE GEORGE of CAMBRIDGE 2013.' A ribbon along the bottom of the design displays the royal motto 'DIEU ET MON DROIT' (God and my right). The obverse shows the fourth official effigy of The Queen, George's great-grandmother, by Ian Rank-Broadley. Struck in 156.30 grams of 24-carat gold, this scarce collector's piece is one of just 140 issued in 2013 and is offered in its original presentation packaging which comprises a white card gift box and a glossy wooden case, embossed in gold with The Royal Mint's logo. An information booklet and a numbered certificate of authenticity are enclosed. The COA number is also lettered on the flip-up display stand.
