Top graded 22-carat gold proof Five Pound coin from The Royal Mint, issued to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee. A number of large-scale public events were held in 2002 to commemorate this remarkable royal occasion and a range of monuments and souvenirs commissioned, including a collection of official Crown coins, made by the UK's national mint. This highly-collectable piece features a one-off obverse and reverse, used only for this issue. One side shows a youthful equestrian portrait of Her Majesty. This bears similarities to the motif that appeared on the reverse of the 1977 Silver Jubilee Crown. The inner Latin legend, translated, reads 'The love of the people is the Queen’s protection' - a motto last used on the coinage of Charles I. The date appears below, divided by a small shield of royal arms, within a garter. This is paired with an unusual bust in which the Queen looks over her shoulder with a pensive expression. This is also the work of Ian Rank-Broadley, its dramatic impact heightened by the lack of text, excepting the denomination ('FIVE POUNDS'). Struck in 39.94 grams of 91.67% fine gold, this proof-finish Crown coin has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. One of just 3,500 struck, this piece has been graded PF 70 Ultra Cameo by the Numismatic Guaranty Company and comes sealed in its labelled holder.
