Collectable gold proof Rhodesian 10 Shillings from 1966, struck in 22-carat gold by the South African Mint for the Rhodesian Reserve Bank.
Only 6,000 of these proof 10s coins were authorised for issue in 1966, with many included in three-coin proof sets. They were commissioned not long after the white separatist minority government had declared independence in November 1965.

The reverse of this gold, designed by South African medallist Thomas Sasseen, shows a sable antelope facing left with the date (1966) on either side and 'RHODESIA' above and 'TEN SHILLINGS' below.
The obverse displays a right-facing diademed and draped coinage portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Arnold Machin. The simple legend around the effigy reads 'ELIZABETH THE SECOND'.
This 1966-dated coin is struck to the same specifications as a British Half Sovereign in about 3.9 grams of 91.67% (22-carat) gold with a fine proof finish. It measures about 19.3 millimetres from milled edge to milled edge.
Records indicate that some 6,000 of these Ten Shilling coins were produced in 1966, struck at the South African Mint on behalf of the Rhodesian National Bank as premium presentation pieces for VIPs.
Some 2,000 of these coins were included in 1966 Rhodesian Sets with gold Rhodesian £5 and Rhodesian £1 coins, but the rest would have been issued individually, originally in SA Mint boxes, though this example is offered loose without official packaging.
