Replica 1936 King Edward VIII gold Sovereign. The obverse of these coins show a left-facing bare-head bust of Edward VIII, paired with a reverse design that resembles Benedetto Pistrucci's classic St George and the dragon motif with the date (1936) below. These fantasy pieces recreate the appearance of a non-existant Sovereign date. Edward became King in January 1936 on the death of his father, George V. In December of the same year he abdicated in favour of his brother, who would reign as George VI. An extremely limited number of gold Sovereigns were designed for Edward VIII but never went into circulation. Those 1937-dated pattern coins are supremely rare. These 1936-dated replicas, struck in 6.10 grams of 9-carat gold are the same size as a real Sovereign and make a fun addition to any gold collection.

Saint George Design On 1936 Sovereign

An interpretation of Benedetto Pistrucci's Saint George and the dragon motif is shown on the reverse with the year (1936) below.

9-Carat Gold 1936 Fantasy Sovereign

This is a 9-carat gold coin, hallmarked to the edge, that weighs 6.10 grams and measures 22.0 millimetres in diameter. This coin is an unofficial pattern, otherwise known as a 'fantasy piece' and is not legal tender.

Pre-Owned Replica Gold Sovereign

This is a pre-owned medallic gold coin, struck for collectors but not intended to be seen as a real gold Sovereign. These coins have a proof-like finish but may show minor marks associated with careful handling over the years.
