The famous Scottish inventor Alexander Graham Bell is honoured on this 2022 brilliant uncirculated Two Pound coin from The Royal Mint. Born in Edinburgh in 1847, Bell exhibited a scientific curiosity from an early age, running experiments and gathering botanical specimens. He also displayed a creative mindset, using his problem-solving skills to invent a dehusking machine for a flour mill. This was the first of many inventions that he would be credited with in his life. Aside from his work as an inventor, he was also noted for his work in engineering and helping those who are deaf. The Royal Mint designer Henry Gray places his most famous invention, the telephone, at the centrepiece of this UK coin. The first ever telephone call was made on the 10th March 1876, with his assistant Thomas Watson receiving the inaugural call. Gray cleverly inscribed the phrase 'PIONEER OF THE TELEPHONE' split across the 0-9 telephone buttons. Paired with this is Jody Clark's engraving of Queen Elizabeth II, which is the fifth and final UK coin effigy of Her Majesty. This coin weighs 12.00 grams, a diameter of 28.40 millimetres, a cupro-nickel centre and a nickel-brass outer ring. It's struck twice in the production process to give a BU finish, which is a far superior quality than ordinary circulating coins. Each coin is housed in a protective capsule, which in turn is fixed inside a collectable coin sleeve. This is the original limited edition packaging from The Royal Mint.
