2021 BU 50p depicting the marine reptile Temnodontosaurus. One in a three-coin collection celebrating Mary Anning, this UK coin commemorates her discovery of the oceanic fish-lizard. The Royal Mint consulted with the Natural History Museum to ensure the depictions adhered to the latest science, and paleo-artist Robert Nicholls translated this into a fierce reverse design - complete with one of Mary's original fossils. The obverse of this 2021 cupronickel coin houses Elizabeth II as shown in her fifth and final definitive portrait. Jody Clark's artistry is further esteemed thanks to the brilliant uncirculated finish that gives this coin a collectable quality. Comparable to other 50 Pence pieces, this Temnodontosaurus coin has a diameter of 27.30 millimetres and a gross weight of 8.00 grams. Your pre-owned Tales of the Earth Temnodontosaurus arrives capsuled in the original Royal Mint card wallet, which also tells the tale of Mary Anning's significant discovery.

2021 Mary Anning Collection Obverse

Obverse presents Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. Legend: 'ELIZABETH II ·  D ·  G ·  REG ·  F ·  D ·  50 PENCE ·  2021 ·'.

Reverse: Hunting Temnodontosaurus

Temnodontosaurus appears in motion thanks to a curved body and surrounding water ripples. Above Robert Nicholls' powerful depiction is the name 'TEMNODONTOSAURUS'. Below features a representation of an original skull, which helped define an entirely new order of marine reptile: Ichthyosaurs. Transcribed here is 'MARY ANNING 1811' in recognition of her founding contribution.

Temnodontosaurus Coin Specification

This commemorative adheres to the standard definitive measurements for 2021 UK 50p coins. A weight of 8.00 grams and a diameter of 27.30 millimetres is therefore present. The Mint provides this cupronickel coin a collectable BU finish, which translates into giving the rippled water a lifelike glimmer.

Original Tales Of The Earth Presentation

The original Royal Mint folder is present, containing the Temnodontosaurus' story both in life and in Palaeontology. With rich thematic imagery throughout, your coin is housed in a protective capsule in the display-worthy card wallet.

Pre-owned Temnodontosaurus Coin

The Mary Anning Collection, part of the popular Tales of the Earth series, is no longer available from the Mint. This is therefore a pre-owned Royal Mint coin offered in the original presentation folder. The provided images are comparable to the like-new coin you will receive.
