From 2017 to 2021, The Royal Mint cooperated with the Imperial War Museum to release a series of commemorative coins with a Remembrance Day theme. This edition is the brilliant uncirculated Five Pound with special colour printing. As known as Poppy Day, Remembrance Day is held on the 11th of November annually, falling on the same day in which the First World War Armistice was declared. It's an opportunity to honour members of the armed forces who have died on active service. In the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries, poppies are worn as a mark of respect, inspired by the war poem 'In Flanders Fields' by Wilfred Owen. Poppies and poetry play a role in the reverse of this remembrance coin, which is the work of acclaimed artist, Gary Breeze. It takes the words from another famous poem, 'For the Fallen', by Laurence Binyon, It was first published in September 1914 in the Times of London and the fourth stanza of the poem is commonly known now as the 'Ode of Remembrance', which is often recited at Remembrance Day services. On the bottom right are four poppies, an enduring symbol of Remembrance Day. This beautiful reverse is paired with the fifth UK coin portrait of Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. The specifications of the pre-owned coin itself are a weight of 28.28 grams, a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and an excellent quality BUnc finish. On top of that, the collectable coin is housed in a colourful limited edition folder, which is the original Royal Mint packaging.
