To celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of the famed English writer, William Wordsworth, the Royal Mint released a set of collectable Five Pound coins. The edition shown here is the brilliant uncirculated version struck in cupro-nickel. William Wordsworth was born in 1770 in Cockermouth and went on help spark the Romantic Age in English literature in the early 19th century, alongside. His notable works include The Prelude and Lyrical Ballads, the latter which he jointly authored with Samuel Taylor Coleridge. His name is synonymous with the Lake District, having settled in the village of Grasmere and being buried just yards away from the cottage he lived in. The reverse, by David Lawrence, places a background of Scafell Pike in the Lake District with the text 'Nature never did betray the heart that loved her', which is from Wordsworth's Tintern Abbey poem. The obverse shows the fifth UK coin effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. Specifications of the coin are a weight of 28.28 grams and a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. This coin is housed in a colourful limited edition folder, which makes it the perfect gift option for followers of English literature and romantic poetry.
