The Royal Mint and the Historic Royal Palaces organisation have teamed up to issue a set of commemorative 2020 BUnc Five Pound coins depicting the former royal residence, the Tower of London. In this brilliant uncirculated edition, the reverse shows the same outline of a Norman arched window present in the other coins in the series, but with a hammered penny in front of it, signifying the first coins struck at the Royal Mint's Tower of London site. Between 1279 under the reign of King Edward I and 1812 under King George III's reign, the Royal Mint was headquartered on the site of the Tower of London. For 533 years, the Mint struck the nation's coinage by hand at the Tower, and only moved out due to a lack of space in the early 19th century. On the reverse design, Timothy Noad placed a hammered silver penny in front of a window present in the White Tower. The outer text reads 'TOWER OF LONDON', with the text on the hammered penny reading 'LONDON CIVITAS'. On the obverse, the fifth definitive UK coin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II can be seen. It was designed by the Royal Mint engraver, Jody Clark. The specifications of this collectable pre-owned coin are a weight of 28.28 grams, a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and an alloy composed of cupro-nickel. The original limited edition packaging is issued as standard, with the coin encased in a protective capsule attached to an informative slipcase.
