Brilliant uncirculated official UK Two Pound coin in original presentation folder from The Royal Mint, issued to mark 350 years since Samuel Pepys FRS made his final entry in his famous diary. Gary Breeze's design for this collectors coin captures this poignant moment, reflecting on Pepys' failing sight. The piece features a hand-signing 'Samuel Pepys' on a piece of parchment with the anniversary dates (1669 - 2019) below. The edge includes a line from this last entry: 'THE GOOD GOD PREPARE ME'. Pepys was a naval administrator and Member of Parliament who documented his life in the decade after the restoration of the British monarchy in 1660. First published in the 19th century, his diaries are among the most important sources on London in the 1660s and cover major events like the 1666 Great Fire of London, the Second Dutch War and the Great Plague from an eyewitness perspective. Breeze's design is paired with Jody Clark's coin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which was the fifth and final definitive effigy of her and was used from 2015 until shortly after her passing. Each bimetallic UK £2 coin weighs 12.00 grams measures 28.40 millimetres in diameter. What sets these coins aside is their BUnc finish, which is sharper than ordinary circulation coinage due to the fact it's struck twice during production. We'll supply your collectable Samuel Pepys coin in its original presentation packaging from The Royal Mint, packed with information on the life and times of the diarist.
