Brilliant uncirculated Kew Gardens 50 Pence from The Royal Mint in original display folder. Famous for the low number released into circulation, the Kew Gardens Fifty Pence is the most sought after issue among 50p collectors. It was struck to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the foundation of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew in Richmond-upon-Thames. The collection of exotic plants was started in 1759 and is today the worlds most extensive group of living and preserved specimens. It’s also one of London’s top tourist attractions. The history of Kew is celebrated on this renown coin with a depiction of the Garden’s Chinese Pagoda with a leafy vine twining around the tower and the anniversary dates: 1759 and 2009. Its a design by the British artist Christopher Le Brun RA. His instantly recognisable design is paired with Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Her Majesty the Queen which appears on the obverse of original 2009 Kew Gardens coins. This portrait was used until 2015 and was replaced on later issues of the Kew Gardens 50p with Jody Clark’s fifth and final effigy. This 2009 coin is composed of the same cupronickel alloy as regular, circulated Kew Gardens coins but boasts a fine, brilliant uncirculated finish, carefully protected by a clear capsule, built into the display folder. The Royal Mint packaging provides additional information about the Gardens an Le Brun’s design. An essential addition for any serious Fifty Pence collector.
